New Rural Development Institute Peking University held the first meeting of its second council

On the afternoon of December 25, 2023, the first meeting of the second council of New Rural Development Institute Peking University (hereinafter referred to as NRDI was held at Peking University. Mr. Wang Jie, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute and former Vice President of Peking University, other members of the Board of Directors, representatives of the governing units, and researchers of the Institute attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Wang Jie.

The meeting began with a heartfelt thanks to the first council members and the presentation of honorary certificates to the outgoing council members and their representatives. Afterwards, Wang Jie, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NCAA, and Huang Ji-kun, Vice Chairman and President of NCAA, presented letters of appointment to the 19 members of the second council. The second council consists of 19 council members from government, institutions and enterprises.

The meeting listened to the report of Prof. Huang Jikun, President of NRDI, on the work progress of NRDI in 2023 and the recent work plan. In the report, President Huang Jikun firstly introduced the basic situation of Xinnongyuan from the development process, purpose and goal, institutional setup and team construction, and then introduced the progress and achievements of think tank construction from the construction of data platforms, policy consulting tasks, academic reports and exchanges. Then, President Huang Jikun reported on the financial income and expenditure of NRDI and the challenges it faces from 2018-2023. Finally, he put forward the near-term work plan, the new year will actively promote domestic and international academic and think tank cooperation, and constantly strengthen the internal and external exchanges and cooperation with the governing units and the internal backbone of the Institute, focusing on promoting the implementation of the Peking University "Three Rural" Think Tank Forum, policy briefs in the internal journal, the hiring of full-time researchers and other work, and constantly enhance the influence of the Institute. Influence.

After deliberating on the report, the Council fully recognized the achievements of the NRDI in terms of research results, policy recommendations, platform construction and academic impact. The participating councilors agreed that the work of Xinnongyuan is solid, and its academic and policy influence continues to improve. The council members pointed out that, as a think tank research platform, the Institute is a "front-runner" in the construction of think tanks in terms of the number of policy reports, the impact of decision-making, and the depth of research at the grass-roots level.

Finally, the council members also provided targeted suggestions for the future research programs and funding sources of NRDI. The directors suggested that NRDI could conduct research in the areas of industrial development and income of the three rural areas, urban-rural integrated development, branding of agricultural products, and digital countryside, etc. The directors also suggested thinking about the positioning of universities in think-tank research, the importance of long-term and continuous research on basic data, the combination of universities and enterprises to increase funding, and the promotion of publicity to expand the influence.
