On February 29, 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs held the inaugural meeting of the Science and Technology Innovation Strategic Advisory Committee, and Tang Renjian, Secretary of the Party Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Minister and head of the Ministry's Science and Technology Innovation Leading Group, attended the meeting, issued letters of appointment for the strategic advisory members and delivered a speech. The meeting emphasized the need to study and implement the spirit of the important instructions and instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, the implementation of the CPC Central Committee, the State Council decision-making and deployment, adhere to the agricultural and rural scientific and technological innovation as a guarantee of national food security, accelerate the construction of a strong agricultural country of the fundamental safeguards and basic support to strengthen the agricultural and rural science and technology strategy consulting, the administration, the academia of the double line of force, accelerate the promotion of the realization of a high level of agricultural science and technology self-sustaining self-improvement.

Party members of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Vice Minister Zhang Xingwang presided over the meeting and announced the list of members of the Strategic Advisory Committee. Huang Jikun, President of New Rural Development  Institute, Peking University was recruited to serve as a member of the Science and Technology Innovation Strategy Advisory Committee.

The Strategic Advisory Committee will play a key leading role in the agricultural and rural science and technology innovation system, focusing on the study of the development trend of agricultural and rural science and technology, the strategic layout of scientific and technological resources, the reconstruction of the scientific and technological innovation system, the optimization of the scientific and technological management mechanism, and other key areas, to do a good job of forward-looking planning, accurate grasp of high-quality decision-making and consulting to promote a high level of scientific and technological innovation.
